From concrete wall to clay roller.
A National Theatre wall texture recreated as a custom pottery roller for Janice at EpsomPots.
01 / THE BRIEF
Janice from EpsomPots came to us with an unusual request: could we turn the texture of a wall at the National Theatre into a roller she could use in her pottery?
02 / THE CHALLENGE
Translate the ridges, grain and small imperfections of a large concrete surface into a textured tool that could transfer the pattern onto clay.
03 / THE PROCESS
We visited the National Theatre with Janice to study the wall, reconstructed its texture as a detailed 3D model and made a custom 3D-printed clay roller.
04 / THE RESULT
Janice used the roller to create the textured ceramic pieces shown here for her collection, The Traces. The Jolly Oddities designed and printed the roller; the finished ceramics were made by Janice at EpsomPots.
